Bahama Mama

We woke up early this morning to fly to the beautiful islands on the Bahamas! There are over 50 islands that make up this country, but we headed the the southernmost island, Long Island, which is close to Cuba and Turks & Caicos. It was a two hour flight over beautiful turquoise and bright blue waters and time just flew by.

The weather was perfect with 80 degrees and a breeze – it was surprisingly less humid than Florida. Few tourists come to Long Island because of how remote it is, which is what makes it special. Only people in small planes and boats make the journey out this far; most people travel on cruises to the capital of Nassau. The island is very isolated and carries true Bahamian tropical culture with run down homes and destroyed roads littered with potholes. It doesn’t interfere with the beauty of this island – everything was beyond perfect.

We arrived at a small resort right on the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Our villa faced the bright blue waters and was crystal clear. The sand was like white powder cushioning my toes and better yet, I had the entire beach to myself. I spent the entire afternoon snorkeling and swimming with small fish zipping through the water.

Tomorrow we start diving with sharks and we will visit the deepest blue hole in the world!
